Overview
Duck.ai is DuckDuckGo's AI chatbot, which relays your prompts to third-party models after stripping your IP address and other personal metadata. The free version offers Claude Haiku 4.5, Mistral Small 4, GPT-6 Luna, GPT-5.4 mini, gpt-oss-120b and Gemma 4 31B, with no account required and chats saved only on your device. It suits people who want a capable chatbot without handing a profile to an AI company, and it adds image creation, voice chat, and image and PDF uploads. It works in any browser at duck.ai and inside the DuckDuckGo browser on Windows, Mac, iOS and Android. A DuckDuckGo subscription from $9.99 a month adds stronger models and higher limits, bundled with a VPN.

Worth noting

Duck.ai FAQ
- Is Duck.ai free?
- Yes. Duck.ai is free with no account and gives you six models, including Claude Haiku 4.5 and GPT-6 Luna, within a daily usage limit. A DuckDuckGo subscription raises the limits and adds stronger models.
- Is Duck.ai really private?
- DuckDuckGo says it removes your IP address and other personal metadata before a prompt reaches the model provider, so requests look like they come from DuckDuckGo. Providers agree not to train on your chats and to delete them, with stated exceptions such as up to an hour of prompt caching at OpenAI and Anthropic. Chats are stored on your device unless you turn on encrypted Sync and Backup.
- Which AI models does Duck.ai use?
- Free users get Claude Haiku 4.5, Mistral Small 4, GPT-6 Luna, GPT-5.4 mini, gpt-oss-120b and Gemma 4 31B. Plus adds GPT-5.6 Terra and Claude Sonnet 5.5, and Pro adds Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-5.6 Sol. gpt-oss-120b and Gemma 4 31B run in a trusted execution environment at Tinfoil, so even the host cannot read your chats.
- Does the DuckDuckGo subscription increase Duck.ai limits?
- Yes. Plus ($9.99 a month in the US) raises the daily limit and adds a weekly limit you can draw on after the daily one runs out, and Pro ($19.99 a month) doubles the Plus limits. Both plans also include a VPN.
- Duck.ai vs ChatGPT: which should I use?
- Use Duck.ai if privacy matters most: no account, anonymized requests, and a choice of OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral and open models. ChatGPT has far more features, including memory, deep research and agent mode, but it ties chats to your account and trains on them unless you opt out.
- Can Duck.ai create images or read files?
- Yes. Duck.ai can create and edit images from a prompt, and it accepts image and PDF uploads on models that support them, up to 15 pages free, 35 on Plus and 50 on Pro. It does not accept spreadsheets.
