Enki verdict

Claude Code and Cursor overlap less than the comparison suggests. Claude Code is Anthropic's coding agent, included with paid Claude plans, and it runs in the terminal, in VS Code and JetBrains (Cursor included), in a desktop app and on the web. Cursor is a whole editor, a VS Code fork with its own agent, cloud agents and Bugbot pull request review. Since October 12, 2026, its plans are sold as part of the X Subscription, alongside Grok.

Price is now the real difference, especially if you want Claude models. Claude Code comes with Claude Pro at $20 a month ($17 billed annually), sharing Pro's five-hour and weekly limits with chat, and Max raises them for $100 or $200. Cursor's $8 Plus plan covers Grok models only. Claude, GPT and Gemini start on Premium at $30, and even there they're billed at API list price with no included allowance. Coding with Claude every day in Cursor means Premium plus metered usage, while Claude Pro bundles it.

Pick Claude Code for Claude models at a flat price and an agent that goes wherever you code. Pick Cursor for a complete AI editor with cloud agents and PR review, if Grok as the included model suits you. Plenty of developers use both: Claude Code installs as an extension inside Cursor.

Pick Claude Code if

  • You mainly want Claude models, with usage included in one monthly price
  • You work in the terminal, or across several editors
  • Your company buys AI through Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud or Microsoft Foundry

Pick Cursor if

  • You want a full AI editor, not only an agent
  • You want cloud agents, automations and Bugbot PR review in one plan
  • You want the cheapest way in: free, or $8 Plus for Grok models
